LES film based FBI certified sensor
Integrated Biometrics Watson Mini fingerprint scanner is manufactured keeping FBI’s Appendix F and FBI Mobile ID (FAP 45) image quality specification requirements in mind. Appendix F maintains the most stringent set of image quality specifications for FBI applications and meeting these requirements needs manufacturing expertise.
While the most manufacturers rely on optical sensing technology to meet FBI image quality specifications, Integrated Biometrics is the only company that uses its patented LES film based sensor technology to achieve these image quality requirements. Industry leading liveness detection
Most manufacturers leverage an anti-spoofing or liveness detection method that works either side-by-side or after the image acquisition to detect any circumvention attempt. Different software and hardware based techniques have been developed to achieve liveness detection.
LES film based sensing technology takes an entirely different approach towards liveness detection to fail any spoofing attacks. Liveness detection is inherent to the way LES film technology works. LES film contains luminescent phosphor microparticles dispersed across the film. These microparticles glow when the electric circuit is completed beneath the layers. Human body is conductive to the electricity and placing the finger on the LES film sensor completes this low level electric circuit to luminesce the phosphor microparticles, which illuminates the ridge structure.
LES film will not respond to any spoof or replica as it requires human skin with liveness features to luminesce the phosphor microparticles and start the scanning process.
No more left over prints
Latent prints are omnipresent. Owing to the natural oil extracted by the skin surface, impression of your fingerprints is left on almost all surface types you touch, and fingerprint sensor surface is not an exception. Latent and leftover prints, however, become a problem if they are present on an optical fingerprint sensor.
Fingerprint image acquisition in optical fingerprint scanners is based on Total Internal Reflection using a prism. When you place your finger on the sensor surface, light from an internal light source goes through the prism and reflects from the surface your finger is placed on. This returning light collects your fingerprint information, but unfortunately, it also collects leftover prints that may be present on the sensor surface. This unnecessary noise can confuse the system and impact its performance.
Latent prints are inevitable. In case of an optical scanner, the only solution is to clean it after each scan. However, latent prints are not a problem with Integrated Biometrics’ Watson Mini fingerprint scanner as it uses LES film sensor.
LES film sensor illuminates only the portion of skin (i.e. friction ridges) that comes in its contact. This highly localized illumination enables the system to capture a precise image of your fingerprint, which stays unaffected by latent prints.
