Sticking to FBI’s image quality specifications can be challenging even for high quality fingerprint scanners. Adhering to Appendix F image quality specification can particularly be difficult as it consists of the most stringent image quality specifications. FBI requires manufacturers to stick to these standards to ensure consistency, standardization and to ensure inter-operability, if they want their scanners to be used in FBI applications.

Patented LES technology
Developed and produced by Integrated Biometrics, patented LES (Light Emitting Sensor)film offers unmatched operability. LES technology enables IB Sherlock to keep up its performance in harsh environmental conditions such as direct sunlight as well as challenging finger skin conditions such as dry or moist fingers. Integrated Biometrics’ sensor technology is based on an electroluminescent (LES) film. This film contains non-scale luminescent particles dispersed across the film.
When finger is placed on the sensor surface, these luminescent particles illuminate as the friction ridges of the finger skin completes the electric circuit required for it. This narrow wavelength light illuminates the pattern of friction ridges and produces a high resolution image, which is captured by a digital TFT (Thin Film Transistor)camera. The resultant image has the resolution of 500 pixels per inch.
Conventional optical sensors capture the image of the skin surface using total internal reflectance with a prism. However, LES film image capture is based on the physical contact of the live finger’s friction ridges with the sensor surface. Contact with live finger completes the low level electric circuit required to illuminates the ridges and produces a perfect fingerprint image.
Being based on localized illumination due to liveness characteristics, LES film will not illuminate for a spoof or fingerprint replica, since they lack the liveness features required to complete the electric circuit. This automatically makes Integrated Biometrics Sherlock highly immune to spoofing as its sensing technique is inherently based of liveness characteristics.
Leftover prints can also be a problem with ordinary optical sensors, in which fingerprints left behind by other users may impact the fingerprint image quality and impact the performance of the scanner. Leftover prints can confuse the system and may result in false positives and false negatives. The problem of left behind prints is automatically eliminated when you choose LES sensor as these sensors do not entertain leftover prints.
