LES film based sensing technology
Unlike traditional prism-based optical sensors, LES film technology takes a different approach to scan fingerprints. It first illuminates the pattern of friction ridges and then captures it using a TFT camera. The advantage of LES film sensing over prism-based optical capture is that it can capture highly accurate fingerprints even if they are visibly dirty or dry.
Even if fingerprints are visibly dirty or dry, they offer enough conductivity for the LES sensor to illuminate the exact pattern of friction ridges. This illuminated pattern of friction ridges is captured by a digital camera located behind the sensor. The camera itself is pretty compact in a form factor so it contributes to the overall compact footprint of the device.
Inherent liveness detection tech
With FIVE-0, Integrated Biometrics did not have to make any additional efforts to offer one of the market-leading liveness detection and anti-spoofing ability. The LES sensor is built the way that it requires a living finger’s natural conductivity to work. If an importer tries to circumvent the system by presenting a replica or spoof made of silicone, latex, paper, glue, or just any elastic material, the sensor will not respond at all. Since the spoofs and replicas cannot offer a living person’s skin characteristics, the LES film sensor does not accept them.
Immune to leftover and latent prints
By using LES film-based sensor technology in FIVE-0, Integrated Biometrics is also able to offer inherent immunity against latent and leftover prints. Leftover/latent prints are a common problem in fingerprint scanners that make use of prism-based optical sensing technology.
Since these traditional sensors capture what is visible, they also capture the latent or leftover prints present on the scanner platen. It negatively impacts the scanner’s ability to create an accurate fingerprint image, which results in performance issues. That is the reason why users of traditional prism-based optical sensors clean the platen after each scan, just to avoid any performance issues.
Since LES film-based sensors only work when they come in contact with a living person’s finger and illuminate the exact friction ridge pattern, its performance does not affect even if there are any latent or leftover prints present on the sensor surface.
