Lumidigm V311 Description
V311 Scanner is part of Lumidigm’s Venus Series or V-Series Sensors. V-Series sensors return high-quality images anytime, anywhere and on anyone. The causes for loss of surface features are many which include skin or environmental conditions, finger pressure, age or dirt. Such issues cause loss of image quality in conventional fingerprint sensors which capture prints at only surface levels. This leads to lower standards of performance in conventional scanners. Lumidigm’s Biometric Fingerprint Sensors on the other hand capture accurate, clear and high-quality images reading the surface and sub-surface fingerprints at the same time. This enables V311 to deliver clean and clear images consistently even in the absence of surface features. Thus V311 is able to avoid the twin pitfalls of Failure to Enroll (FTE) and Failure to Acquire(FTA) with ease.
V-Series sensors have in-built protection against fingerprint spoofing and fake fingerprints. This is possible due to its capability of scanning both the deep tissue data and surface data. The V311 is thus equipped with one of the most accurate spoof detection capability which results in highly secure and accurate fingerprint scanning.

Lumidigm’s multi-spectral images allow the fingerprints to be captured anywhere, anytime and in any environment. The usual obstacles to good quality fingerprints are age, genetics finger placement, dirt or environmental conditions. Conventional sensors do not operate with high efficiency under such conditions. But V311, equipped with multispectral imaging, avoids Failure to Enroll and Failure to acquire scenarios effectively.

V311’s Superior Liveness Detection feature has over 20,000 samples detected and tested till date. This makes it a proven anti-spoofing technology. It does away with common problems faced by conventional fingerprint sensors. V311 uses multiple spectrums of light to capture fingerprints at both the surface and sub-surface levels. The sub-surface fingerprints are located beneath the surface of the skin, in the capillary beds and other sub-dermal structures. Images captured from these sub-surface locations deliver high quality consistently. V311 thus effectively overcomes common problems with conventional imaging systems. It is thus able to avoid the environmental and demographic shortcomings and vulnerabilities present in traditional systems.
Dry conditions can be caused by a variety of factors such as natural skin characteristics, air travel, persistent washing of hands and even climate conditions. V311 produces high quality images for fingerprints affected by any of these factors.
Wet conditions affect image quality. V311 multispectral imaging feature is as effective in handling wet conditions as it is for dryness. It thus effectively negates damp conditions due to climate or setting and takes care of moist-handed people as well.
V311’s multispectral imaging overcomes the conventional shortcomings of handling demographic factors such as age, job, lifestyle or ethnicity. With multispectral imaging, these problems are solved.
Conventional fingerprint scanners which capture only the surface fingerprints have rigid requirements. These include conditions such as hands should be dust-free, dry and maybe have a lotion applied. But this is actually an impediment to high performance as people will not always come for scanning with hands in ideal conditions. Their fingers may be roughened up by construction or agriculture work and the like. Multi-spectral imaging’s sub-surface scanning avoids such barriers to scanning. V311 scanners have been proven to be the best in biometric authentication in field trials and evaluations, pilot tests and large scale programs which require a certain degree of ruggedness.
Lumidigm V311 provides protection from such spoofing done using published and unpublished methods where fake copies of fingerprints are used to authenticate imposters. Apart from multi-spectral imaging, the liveness detection feature is aided by top-of-the-line machine learning algorithms which keeps itself up-to-date (or learns from experience) of the newer threats arising regularly. It thus keeps itself abreast of newer spoofing means and mechanisms.
Spoofing of fingerprints using thin, colorless fakes is a big threat even in access controlled environments with trained attendants. Multiple methods and materials such as this are regularly used to deceive fingerprint identification systems. Using multi-spectral imaging’s sub-surface fingerprint scanning, spoofing can be prevented effectively.
